Avesta Battery and Energy Engineering (ABEE), a subsidiary of the European Avesta Holding, which is dedicated to the development of next-generation battery materials, recently announced that it has officially entered the mass production phase of lithium metal anode.
Lithium metal anode is regarded as one of the key materials for next-generation batteries, especially solid-state batteries, due to their unparalleled energy density that can significantly enhance the capacity and performance of batteries.
ABEE claims to be the only company in Europe capable of mass-producing lithium metal anodes, with its facility designed to manufacture lithium metal anodes with thicknesses ranging from 50 micrometers to less than 10 micrometers, with standard lengths of 5 meters, 10 meters, and 50 meters. The factory has an annual production capacity exceeding 38,000 meters.
ABEE plans to collaborate with battery manufacturers and energy storage solution providers to further develop its lithium metal anode technology and accelerate the market adoption of this technology.
In addition, according to the company's announcement in mid-June, the company’s solid-state prototype pouch Generation 0 cells have achieved 500 cycles with a capacity retention of 82%, after the cells have been undergoing rigorous testing in ABEE laboratories for several months at 25 °C and a pressure of 0.5 kg/cm2.
The company is currently developing Generation 1 solid-state batteries, aiming for 1000 cycles. The company’s solid-state battery product development focuses on phosphate-based cathode batteries with higher specific energies while maintaining safety and low cost. The next trials will focus on optimizing rate capability and by the end of the year ABEE plans to move towards prismatic battery cells.
