Shaanxi TIANNA’s 3,000-ton anode material project for sodium-ion batteries has officially commenced in Datong recently. This project relies on the research and development technology reserves and full industry chain support resources of the parent company, TIANNA Technology.

The ‘Sodium-ion Battery Hard Carbon Anode Material Production Capacity Project’ of Shanxi TIANNA Material Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of TIANNA Tehcnology, was approved on June 19. The total investment of the project is 120 million yuan, and it is located in the Xinrong Economic and Technological Development Zone Industrial Park. The project is scheduled from July 2024 to May 2025. It will build new production workshops and purchase relevant production equipment to establish a hard carbon anode material production line for sodium-ion batteries. Upon completion, the project is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons of hard carbon anode materials for sodium-ion batteries.

TIANNA Technology was established in 2017 and headquartered in Wuhan Optics Valley, has three major production bases. The company focuses on the research and development, production, and sales of hard carbon anode materials, and also provides complete solutions and technical services for sodium-ion batteries, striving to become a world-class and industry-leading provider of battery anode materials.

Based on different application scenarios of sodium-ion batteries, TIANNA has currently developed and mass-produced two biomass-based hard carbon anode products, TN-2 and TN-4, which are positioned for long cycle and low cost, and high-rate type, respectively. The products feature a unique spherical particle shape of hard carbon, with the advantages of high compression, high capacity, and high initial efficiency, which have been widely recognized in the industry.

At the beginning of this month, Mr. Wu Jun, the Marketing Director of TIANNA, officially released the company's first mass-produced hard carbon anode product for sodium-ion batteries, TN-4, at an industry conference. This product can fully replace the imported products widely used in the sodium-ion battery industry in terms of physical and chemical indicators, electrochemical performance, processing performance, and kinetic performance. At the same time, it was also announced that the 2,000-ton hard carbon anode production line for sodium-ion batteries in Hefei TIANNA has been successfully put into production.

Currently, TIANNA has signed a "Strategic Cooperation Agreement" with Shandong Zero One Four Advanced Materials Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Zoolnasm Technology Co., Ltd. A ten-thousand-ton production line is under construction, and deep cooperation relationships have been established with some downstream enterprises.

With the expansion of mass production scale and the increasing maturity of the industry chain, TIANNA expects the price of TN-4 to be as low as 25,000 yuan/ton in 2025 and even lower to 19,800 yuan/ton in 2026. This undoubtedly injects momentum into the current slow sodium-ion battery industry chain, proving that the cost advantage of sodium-ion batteries is not unrealistic.

At present, TIANNA has built a diversified product matrix, launching energy storage type, power type, and capacity type hard carbon materials, taking into account multiple core indicators such as kinetic performance, cost control, cycle performance, and processability. They can be widely applied to different sectors such as energy storage, two-wheeled vehicles, low-speed vehicles, start-stop batteries, UPS, communication base stations, engineering machinery vehicles, A0 class cars, and electric ships, always striving to provide the best product solutions for battery customers and application scenarios.
