According to Reuters on October 9, Thomas Schaefer, the head of Volkswagen's brand, told the media on Wednesday that Volkswagen plans to launch 8 new affordable electric models by 2027 to regain market share.

He stated that it is necessary to ensure the profitability of the brand while also making the vehicles affordable for customers, "We have to produce our vehicles profitably and put them on the road at affordable prices." It is reported that the ID.2 small car model will be developed within 36 months, instead of 50 months.

At the end of September, Volkswagen Group China showcased five pure electric models from Volkswagen and Audi brands, including the ID. 3, ID.7 VIZZION, ID. UNYX, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Audi Q5 e-tron, along with comprehensive charging and energy solutions, during the 2024 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC).

Earlier this month, the Volkswagen Switzerland team also launched the ID.7 Pro S version produced in the German factory, with a battery capacity of 86 kWh, offering a maximum range of 794 kilometers on a single charge, and a combined WLTP power consumption of 16.2 to 13.6 kWh.
