Recent domestic media release that NAKNOR, one of the leading rolling machinery manufacturers in China, has delivered dozens of dry battery electrode (DBE) equipment sets this year, and still multiple potential customers are currently lining up to visit its dry electrode equipment.

As we understand, the dry battery electrode manufacturing process can achieve cost reduction. The dry mixing of battery materials does not require water or any solvents; binders can be used directly for dry mixing, eliminating the need for coating and drying processes, which can save a significant amount of plant space and conserve water and energy.

Tesla has currently implemented dry electrode processes for both anode and cathode production. According to Tesla's calculations, the cost of batteries can thus be reduced by 17%; some domestic battery companies estimate that the dry battery electrode process can reduce battery costs by 10%.

NAKNOR has been collaborating with the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen (RITS) since 2009, and the dry electrode equipment has gone through 5-6 iterations.

In addition to the dry battery electrode processing equipment, the company is also actively developing solid-state battery equipment. It is reported that there are some commonalities in the battery manufacturing process between the solid-state and the dry battery electrode.

Recently, the company signed a cooperation agreement with the Sichuan New Energy Vehicle Innovation Center, and the two parties will collaborate on the development of key equipment and processes for the industrialization of solid-state batteries.

According to the agreement, both parties will establish a joint laboratory and plan to use five years to develop solid-state battery production equipment based on market demand. The Sichuan New Energy Vehicle Innovation Center will be responsible for the basic research work of solid-state battery processes, providing relevant technical parameters for the improvement of solid-state battery equipment based on the development progress of new processes, materials, and technologies of solid-state batteries, in order to efficiently promote equipment iteration and maintain a leading position in technology for the products developed through their cooperation. NAKNOR will complete the development work of the solid-state battery production equipment based on the relevant technical parameters, cooperate with the innovation center for process development, make timely improvements and upgrades, and be responsible for the production and marketing planning of solid-state battery equipment to achieve industrialization.

The Sichuan New Energy Vehicle Innovation Center is a leading institution in China for basic research and industrial development of solid-state batteries and has developed various types of solid-state batteries with long cycles, ultra-low temperatures, high energy, and high power, focusing particularly on the development of all-solid-state batteries based on sulfide solid electrolytes.

NAKNOR is one of the leading companies in China for the research, production, and sales of new energy battery electrode rolling machines and advanced material rolling machines. The company has formed several core technologies, including high-precision electrode rolling technology, wide-roll rolling technology, high-speed tension precise control technology, multi-stage stretching technology, ear heating technology, multi-link coupling technology, four-axis winding technology, and oil-heated roller technology. The company's technical, resource, and market accumulation in the field of solid-state battery equipment and dry electrode equipment R&D will help promote the industrial application and promotion process of solid-state battery equipment and dry electrode equipment.
