On November 25th, CATL released the TECTRANS series of batteries for heavy commercial vehicles, including Superfast Charging Edition, Long Life Edition, Long Range Edition, and High Strength Edition (for construction machinery), all supporting 1000V high voltage.
For a long time, short range, slow energy replenishment, and rapid life decay have been industry pain points for the electrification of heavy commercial vehicles, posing critical challenges to be addressed. The TECTRANS series of heavy commercial vehicle batteries launched by CATL have achieved breakthroughs in driving range, energy replenishment speed, and safety standards.
TECTRANS Heavy Commercial Vehicle - Superfast Charging Edition batteries feature a peak 4C charging rate, enabling a 70% charge in just 15 minutes, along with an ultra-long life of 1.2 million kilometers, a maximum capacity of 600 kWh, and a driving range of up to 500 kilometers. In short-haul scenarios such as mining transport and soil mixing, it significantly reduces the charging time for electric heavy trucks, markedly improving profitability.
TECTRANS Heavy Commercial Vehicle - Long Life Edition batteries offer an ultra-long life of 15 years or 3 million kilometers, breaking the life limit of heavy truck batteries. They can withstand the battery decay pressure from frequent charging and discharging in high-energy consumption transport scenarios such as heavy load and medium to long distance. This edition also has a range of up to 500 kilometers to meet various transport mission needs. The battery supports swap mode, achieving "charge, swap, and upgrade, rent, sell, and repurchase," further reducing the vehicle cost for end-users. For example, a heavy truck traveling 200,000 kilometers per year can save more than one million over eight years with the TECTRANS Heavy Commercial Vehicle - Long Life Edition compared to a fuel vehicle.
TECTRANS Heavy Commercial Vehicle - Long Range Edition batteries are the first to achieve a full chassis layout of 1000 kWh, with an ultra-long range of 800 kilometers, breaking the long-distance application limitations of electric heavy trucks. They are easily capable of handling cross-province transport tasks such as express delivery and fast freight, expanding the service radius of the vehicle. Additionally, their energy density is up to 220Wh/kg, the highest in the industry, and the full chassis layout design greatly expands the cargo space, increasing user profits.
TECTRANS Heavy Commercial Vehicle - High Strength Edition batteries are specifically developed for construction machinery, maintaining high safety after driving 500,000 kilometers under mining truck conditions, four times the industry's endurance strength of 100,000 kilometers. The High Strength Edition also features the unique "Taishan Mount Architecture," which maximizes integrated technology, increasing volume utilization by 40% and achieving an IP68 waterproof rating. It can withstand direct water washing and corrosion, with anti-corrosion performance exceeding industry standards. Moreover, the battery pack has an "armor coating" that isolates electrochemical corrosion, ensuring optimal performance under harsh conditions. The product has been mass-produced and applied to over 20 models from eight construction machinery manufacturers, including LiuGong Machinery, XCMG, and BRETON etc.
Currently, CATL's product lineup in the passenger vehicle sector includes the Shenxing battery, Qilin battery, and Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery. In the commercial vehicle sector, TECTRANS is the company's first commercial brand. Commercial vehicles are one of the important application areas for CATL's EV batteries. CATL released its first generation of fast-charging batteries for commercial buses in 2017, and in 2021, it released its third-generation fast-charging batteries covering heavy truck applications.
From July 2024 to the present, CATL has successively launched the TECTRANS L-Series Superfast Charging Edition, Long Range Edition, and TECTRANS B-Series Bus Edition in the logistics and public transportation sectors, achieving full product coverage for commercial vehicles.
In the domestic market, CATL has been leading in the installation of heavy truck batteries in China for four consecutive years from 2020 to 2023, and globally, CATL holds about 30% of the global construction machinery battery application market share.
According to public data statistics, the electrification rate of domestic heavy trucks in China was only 0.2% in 2020; by 2023, this figure increased to 5.6%. In the first nine months of this year, the electrification rate of domestic heavy trucks reached 11.2%. Compared to the electrification rate of passenger cars, which is over 50%, there is still a significant market space for the electrification of commercial vehicles.
